That article does not state anything like what you claim
Basically the PAC pursued them. And while King Larry talked to others like his pitch was golden and going to be accepted there is nothing in that article that states (at least the 2 big schools) they were going to accept or had pursued the conference from their end. They were being pitched to by a snake oil salesman who certainly was going to tell people his pitches were going to be successful...
