when you limit the number of possessions, it isn't a good argument to say you
kept someone under their season average. Having total possessions down makes a low scoring game, it is not the same as "the defense specifically winning the game." I will give you that our defense looked good in Utah and ASU. Not only did USC only have 11 possessions their season average was 29 points per game and scored 31 on BYU (good thing BYU scored 35 on 10 possessions). WSU only had about 8 possessions, by contrast, in their 44 point win over portland st. they had 13 meaningful possessions. So, it is a good thing that BYU scored 21 points on 8 possessions (we had 9 possessions total, but the last one was intended to burn the last 4 minutes of clock not score, every play was a run by Allgeier).
