go to school. Not only that, they both worked part time jobs in college. They both graduated debt free and are well on their way. The youngest graduated in technology management from UVU and is already making more money at age 26 than I do. The oldest is on a full ride at U of Arizona working on a PhD in Physics. The universities recruit PhD science candidates almost like athletes. He is getting full tuition/fees paid for and a nice stipend on top of that.
One thing that made a huge difference for them, having part time jobs while in high school. They both worked at Seven Peaks water park when they turned 14. Later worked as sweepers at the local school. It was flexible hours and their boss was great to work around sports, band, etc. They learned the value of a dollar and how to work.
I hear time and time again from parents that tell me they aren't going to make their kids work in high school or college so they can focus on their studies. I think it is a big mistake but each kid is different and each parent is different. I'm just sharing what worked for us.
