My parents wish they could have helped with ours. I really like the arrangement

that my wife's parents had for her and her siblings. It was the kids' job to figure out their tuition, but my in-laws covered their room and board.

My wife ended up being the only one of the 5 kids to get her degree, but two are also full-time firefighters. The other two dropped out of college.

The remaining money my in-laws had saved up for their kids' college that went unused went towards a few family vacations once all of their kids were grown and married.
