Try going to school and take his favorite food to and have lunch with him.
You can also go to recess and hang out with him. I had a great friend suggest going to recess and it was awesome. Ended up being one of the most popular kids on the play grounds. I learned when a parent comes to recess, that parent's child becomes really popular! All the kids want to hang out.
