Maybe not 3 years, could be 2. Look at this years Princeton team...

...when the current group of upperclassmen were freshman they were a very mediocre .500-ish type team. Guys stuck together, gained experience and developed chemistry, they continued to add players along the way and were a Sweet 16 team this year. When they were all freshman and sophomores they weren't good.
