For most schools it takes time to build a winner, unless you’re Duke…
…and can bring in a new crop of top 50 players every year. Some times a team can bring in one or two key guys and do a complete about face (like Iowa St) but that is rare. Most cases you need to start from the ground up, get your young core and then as they grow and gain experience you keep adding new parts until year over year you have a pipeline full and just reload as you lose guys.

Building a winner at BYU takes 2 yrs longer than it does anywhere else due to LDS players serving missions. We’ve finally got some young pieces in place and those guys are getting crucial experience. Next season (our first) in the Big12 will be more crucial experience for these guys, almost like a baptism by fire. Here’s hoping Pope can find a couple of key guys who can elevate our play (that we needed and didn’t get in the portal last season).
