Kalani knew he couldn't hire this staff before. The D payroll is 3x what it was

I don't have exact numbers but they cranked open the check book knowing they would need better coaches heading into Big 12. That just wasn't going to happen before. Also, Jay Hill isn't taking a demotion from HC to DC if not for Big 12. Ena isn't probably coming without Big 12. Maybe even K-pop. Certainly the DL guy who had retired from Utah was not going to come to BYU as independent. They knew the possibilities and the challenge of stepping up to the Big 12 and that completely changed the hiring budget and hiring pool.
