Sorry it has been a while, but I feel like not much has been happening. We were really set back by high water tables in our area. I managed to get a skid steer stuck twice, but I got it unstuck with it's bucket. I determined it was just too wet to run down there, so I waited for a while, ordered some gravel and road base and rented a track steer because it handles soggy conditions better. I filled up the bottom of the hole with gravel and leveled it. Yesterday I started building forms for footings. I decided to go very wide with the footings with lots of rebar because of the soggy conditions and high water table. There are places where the footings are 30 inches wide, and I used a 2x10. It cost about 2750 bucks for the extra concrete, but was worth it. I also upped the size of the concrete under my pony walls as well. I called for an appointment for concrete when I was about half done with my forms, and they said the only time they could pour was today at 2. This was at 10, so I busted my backside and got it done and ready to pour. I hired 3 HS kids, and had my own 3 kids and my wife and I and we got the pour done in 3 hours. I paid those HS kids 100 bucks a piece and they were worth every penny. One was a girl, and she outworked my boys. But everyone was awesome and footings are poured. I should have used more stakes. It is why some places are 30 inches wide. Oh well. I laser leveled the height and we are good.
While we were waiting for work we did some cool stuff. I built an outhouse with running water and a flushing toilet out of scrap parts I had laying around. You remember the shed build I did earlier. Well I had enough sheet metal from that to do walls. I had to use old sheetmetal from the roof of my deck that was in front of my single wide before I moved it. That is where the wood came from too. I did have to buy the toilet though. it was a cheepy at Home Depot. I will install it tomorrow probably.
I also built a deck for the other property, and took the boys to do baptisms for the dead, (5.5 hour drive one way) and also took them to evermore park (another 5 hour drive 1 way)
It was fun for them. I kind of tolerated it well, and enjoyed that they were enjoying it. I did get cool stuff at Home depot which is usually a 2 hour drive for me.
