no its a great analogy. one big difference is tipping for restaurant service is
a long-term tradition, whereas the NIL has sprung up recently. So the new NIL goes against long-term customs (I guess of any school that was trying to follow NCAA rules), but business wise its a pretty good analogy.

I guess quite different reasons for the development of the practice in the two situations.

If money is too tight, that is cool. But to philosophically argue against it is strange because the practice is about the same as tipping waiters. I guess we can all not "tip" the players with NIL, but then our "service" is going to become pretty poor as BYU won't be able to competitively recruit at the levels they play against. If that means being an NBA fan for some then so be it. But its odd for cougarboard participants to be sufficiently emotionally involved to post often about the college team they follow but be so adverse to spending or diverting $100 to the NIL collective.
