Rum makes a different vanilla. It’s great for certain things. Vodka is the more neutral flavor that most associate
With vanilla extract in recipes. I like rum extract but I make way less of that than the vodka version. I typically give out 10 gallons of different extracts as ward/neighborhood holiday gifts every year. About half of that is vodka vanilla.

I make gallons of vanilla a year. I’ve never made something that burned when using homemade vanilla.

What did we do wrong? I am sure it isn’t supposed to be that strong. We didn’t even finish the ice cream.

Could have been a few things. Poor beans. Not enough beans. Didn’t let them age long enough. Didn’t shake them often.
