BYU had a very slim chance with Wilson and Hammond (based on what was known during their recruitment). Smith was more realistic but he is a 3* from 247.

I think we are all disappointed in the QB recruiting, but as the OP points out there are so few 4-5* recruits, and even those are crapshoots to develop. BYU has always done with the 3* guys, which is more realistic. Do we still shoot for the moon, of course, we do and should.

My point is this, if your expectations are we sign 4* guys every 1-3yrs I think you are going to set yourself up for constant disappointment and frustration. Expect the worst, hope for the best.
