I had an econ professor at BYU that used the Fiddler on the Roof analogy to explain why companies that get caught up in tradition get buried by those that are willing to adapt. Seems pretty appropriate when discussing college football. If the courts rule in favor of O'Bannon, college football will be forced to change whether you like it or not. No amount of pining for tradition will save it then.
