I spoke with a former player this last weekend about this.
He spoke about the hamstrings. He was was a back up Cougar Back in Bronco's 3-3-5 scheme when Bronco during Bronco's first D-Coordinator role and later when he was head coach. He had some injuries during this time (his were hip flexor injuries if I recall correctly). He did not blame Omer. He actually felt that it was Bronco's practice methods. He said that the hamstrings and muscle pulls were not in the weight room, but rather, were because Bronco was pushing the defense so hard.

He spoke about drills where they had to line up on the side line, sprint out to their position, and then bronco would make a defensive call. He would need to get in position and then back pedal until bronco indicated which side of the field he was throwing to in the flats and then they would need to sprint to a point in that flat. Thus, the safeties were oftentimes sprinting well over one hundred yards each time they did this (the D-linemen didn't have to go very far though). One day, they did it 99 times because Bronco would restart if anyone slacked or wasn't in a full sprint at any time. He was so dehydrated that he was hospitalized to receive IV's. He did not say this with any bitterness toward Bronco. He respects and likes Bronco.

The point here is that if you push someone like that, it doesn't matter what kind of training they do, they are at a higher risk of injuring themselves. Btw, he also told me that Bronco changed things as he went along and was much more humane.

Personally, I worked in the locker room during 2001. I wasn't overly impressed with Omer, but I think he is better than CB ascribes.
