Unlike Bronco, he prepared his teams well for beating Utah
...He was decent as a HC and had a winning record vs Majerus. He was also 3-0 vs Rick in the WAC tourney. He was a guy who clearly understood the importance of winning the in-state battles and didn't lose to Utah St until he'd been HC for 6 or 7 yrs. He owned them. He wasn't charismatic and probably wasn't good at firesides but he was good where it mattered.

He and Majerus hated each other but after going 8-7 vs Rick during his career and getting fired by BYU, Majerus showed ultimate respect to Reid by publicly supporting him as a person and a coach in the media. They eventually became friends.

Years after several former players of his all said that when it came to playing Utah, he was a pit bull when it came to preparation and didn't let anything distract him or the team. They were ready for a dogfight every game. I don't hear current or former players of Bronco's saying that about him. As a matter of fact, we're hearing defensive players coming out and saying they wished he prepared the team better and harder for the Utah game and didn't treat it like it was a regular game.
