This has become ridiculous....BYU will survive without Covey.
I can't believe all the garbage I am reading about BYU missing on Covey. Why Covey selected Utah over BYU and Utah fans calling BYU out. Listen carefully people, he is a 2 star 5'9 white kid out of Provo, Utah. I hate to disappoint you but the pickens are slim in the NFL on WR's that are 5'9. Even smaller when they are white and even lower than that when they come from the WR power house state of Utah.

Everyone wants to call out BYU for missing on him but are we really missing anything? Let's look at the facts real quick. He only received offers from BYU, Utah, USU and perennial power Harvard. Stanford showed interest but no offer. Does this mean every other school in the country missed out on the next big thing?

BYU is not going to get every LDS kids. Not going to offer every LDS kid and doesn't want every LDS kid. Now mix the state of Utah into all this and it is what it is. Being from Bama believe it or not but Nick and Gus don't get every player they go after also in the state. A few years back during Bama's epic title runs they missed on the biggest QB to come out of the state in Winston. The team moved on and so will BYU.

Personally I love where the team is going with recruiting. I love the fact there are less and less local kids and BYU is moving further east consistently. I would rather take a chance on a non LDS kid from the state of TX or FL over a LDS kid from Utah every day of the week. We are getting better exposure to kids in areas BYU never had a chance at. I spoke with Leslie, Apo and Blackmon after the bowl game in Miami. I asked how they felt their BYU experience was or is going and all of them said they loved it. There was some initial adjustment but once they got use to it they were happy.

BYU has an incredible couple years coming up in their schedule. If we do something special I would not be surprised to see some of the names that are selecting Utah or others schools to leave on their mission and want to come back to BYU. Utah is a hot team right now with great exposure in the Pac-12. These kids are young and are being pushed to make extremely difficult decisions at such a young age. Some whan to carve their own legacy at a new school. They want to experience new things and see life outside the state of Utah. I get it and wish them the best where ever they go. I don't however think we miss because that loss could open up an offer for a Koroma, J Will, Leslie or someone else that was never on the radar. I think we had a fantastic recruiting class so far and we still have a couple left.
