But BYU has a long history of offering early when they are convinced. They weren't. Slam dunk works in basketball. It doesn't in recruiting. It simply doesn't.
And frankly, no one really knows who BYU has offered or hasn't...because BYU is prohibited from talking about it. Reporters report based on what the kids tell them. It's probably accurate most of the time...but very often it is not. And just because an offer is given at one point in time, that doesn't mean it's unconditional. It could be based on which player commits first. We will never know if Covey had or still had an offer when he committed. Probably...but we don't know. Because BYU can't comment. It's all hearsay.
There is no such thing as a slam dunk recruit, nor should anyone think there is. It's a disservice to both BYU and the player. Both have agency. Lynch mob opinion is irrelevant.
