RE: Agree + Disagree
"Your final paragraph acknowledges that kids now see the U as the more exciting destination."

I don't live in UT but I doubt that any kid in TX or FL or CA see the yewts as a more exciting destination than BYU. If they do now, they wouldn't after doing a campus visit. If a couple of UT kids do, then so be it. The very fact that so many of the BYU fans living in UT are making such a big deal out of this, proves the point that BYU gets most of the 2 and 3 * kids they target in UT. My hope is that BYU signs no more than about 5 kids a year from UT, and of those, about 1 offensive skill player. I remember doing the exercise of counting the home state of BYU 2 deep rosters during LaVell's tenure and finding that they had a plurality of Californians on them.

Over the last 40 years of BYU football, try and come up with a list of big-time college wide-outs that we have gotten from the state of UT?
How about just offensive skill players? McMahon and Harvey Unga and a couple of tight ends are the first to come to my memory, perhaps a handful more. But surely in 40 years, you would agree that BYU has never had even 40 national level skill players coming from the state of UT, even though we have probably signed 3 or 4 on average in a given year. So based upon the probabilities, signing more than 1 offensive skill player a year from UT, would be a waste of a scholarship, and since we already have the QB, that should pretty well fill our quota for 2015.
