Lets take a look at those guys.
Nate Harris - graduated 2005, Dave Rose's first season as head coach. Rose had no chance to recruit him.

Spencer Nelson - graduated 2004 - The season before Rose's first season.

Gary Wilkinson - He is easily your best example. But keep in mind, he didn't play high school bball. Went to SLCC as a walk-on and had solid Freshman season and great sophmore year. But he was a nobody prior to his sophmore year. Rose had already made scholarship offers to the following soon to be freshman - Jimmer Fredette, Chris Collinsworth, Michael Lloyd Jr., and James Anderson (who was offered a scholarship 2 years earlier and coming back from his mission). Do you expect Rose to yank a scholarship of a 6'10 RM (Anderson) who hasn't played for him yet, for a JC recruit who has only played 2 years of bball and only has 2 years to play and who would be a back up to Plaisted for one of his 2 years in the program? Archie Rose was also a freshman that year and if Rose chose him over Wilkinson then that is a major fail on his part.

Tai Wesley - In 2003 (2 years before Rose became HC) he committed to BYU, and then BYU had to pull the offer because they somehow mismanaged the scholarships and didn't have one for him. So in 2004 he committed to USU. Again all this took place prior to Rose being HC.

Jarred Shaw - Is Not LDS and was suspended during his senior season at USU after being found smoking pot with 2 high school girls. Yep, sounds like a perfect fit for BYU.

David Collette - Good start to his college career, but I think it is too early to say if Rose missed on him. Essentially, you are faulting Rose for choosing a 6'10 Neilson (with a 7'3' wingspan) who had 4 scholarships offers (including one from USU) over 6'8 Collette whose only scholarship offer came from USU after Neilson had turned them down for BYU. We will never know what he would have done if actually at BYU, and I think it is way to early to declare that Neilson is a bust. He may very well go on to be a solid player for a lesser program, which is what Collette is doing.

So your insinuation that USU knows how to recruit and develop bigs doesn't really fly, when they offered Collette only after Neilson turned them down.

Kyle Davis - None of us have any idea how good he will be. He may prove to be one of Dave Rose's busts according to you. He went to SUU out of HS, so it seems that no one including Rose thought that highly of him out of HS.

Even if you consider Davis and Collette good bigs - it still doesn't prove your point. Since the entire country misjudged their talent all it shows is that Dave Rose was no worse then every other D-1 coach at identifying their talent.

So at most, you have one player - Gary Wilkinson.
