At ANY point do you give Bronco credit for winning consistently and playing toug
DESPITE not having NFL guys on his roster? I agree that there is an issue that must be addressed somehow, but the truth lies somewhere in the middle of all this.

BYU cranks out 10 win seasons and bowl appearances against teams with more pro talent on their roster. Some point to Cody Hoffman, our all time receiver at BYU.... A guy most FANS (on cb particularly) were shocked he even decided to stick around for his Sr season. And still didn't get drafted. Worse he didn't even find his way to a roster.
So, did the coaching staff fail to develop the guy?
-Or-
Did the coaching staff put him in situations that allowed him to flourish. While managing an ego of some sort that is difficult to manage...

The other example is Ziggy. Some will argue he was under utilized and held back by BYU coaches and could have been way more successful.... Well I could argue Ziggy is was carefully and masterfully handled and developed for his professional opportunity.
To have a legitimate shot at being drafted they say you need about 2 years worth of "good tape" and if you don't have that , you must have very little "bad tape" to even get a look
I spoke to an NFL scout I happen to know prior to the Utah State game Ziggy's SR year and asked what he thought of him. He didn't know who Ziggy was yet. Some willpoint to this as a total failure by BYU, but I would argue that the staff showed great restraint in not putting in a freakishly good athlete in the game to early. If you do that you run the risk of a guy being unprepared, getting exposed on tape and having to do so much more on the field to cancel out some "bad tape" that is out there.

Ziggy was drafted so high because he was a freakish athlete in all the measurable categories, he essentially had no "bad tape" no flaws in his game had been exposed (had they played him too early I believe he would have been burned a few times and would have some perceived flaws in his game) so the Lions had to roll the dice on him and he ended up a top 5 pick.

Back to my original point, is it possible our coaching staff should be applauded for the success they have had despite not having nfl guys on the roster? My answer is yes.

If I'm going to yell and scream about something as a fan it's the recruiting, cause if this staff can find a way to recruit guys to live the BYU life, I think this coaching staff can win some big ball games.

And.....now I am excited for the football season
