that's silly. Winning and attaining excellence aren't exclusive of each other...
...and when you get a team philosophy of excellence winning stops being a goal and becomes a natural byproduct. When you put excellence into your focus, approach, practice and game prep then excellence. It falls into the "practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect" philosophy.

In looking at past examples where this falls short at times in the program, the past couple of bowl games we have not utilized the full allotment of practice days leading up to the bowl game and in one of the years we used less than half. Both years we lost and in both cases we faced beatable opponents. Would using the 2nd week of allotted practices have made a difference? I don't see how you could argue it wouldn't have.

Another example is the Holy War game vs Utah in 2013. We had lost 3 in a row (including the embarrassing 2011 game) and lost 4 of the past 5, 6 of the past.....(you get the pic). The schedule was set up perfectly for us to get the monkey off our backs and get back to winning. We had a bye week leading into the game with Utah. Instead of using all of the bye week plus the full week of game week to prepare for Utah, Bronco blew off practicing during the bye week and we even lost a day of practice on game week (iirc).

We were coming off of the epic win over Texas where Taysom ran for 259 yds and in the Utah game we came out completely flat and went scoreless in the first half. They looked totally prepared for us both defensively and offensively and played a very patient and methodical game. We struggled to get going and finally put some points on the board late but lost at home by a TD.

Would an additional week of practice have made a difference in the outcome of the game? I don't see how you could argue it wouldn't have.

As Zach stated in his OP, "You get out of things what you put into them" and also another he didn't mention that is apropo, "The speed of the leader determines the rate of the pack."

The Bronco coaching the team now is not the same guy that took the team over in 2005 and had some tremendous early success.
