I agree with you. Which leads us to ask the question, 'why is BYU football in
this state"?

It's simple. There is just more parity in college football now. BYU has no distinct advantage today. They used to with the forward pass that was revolutionized by Lavell. But the college game has evolved and has done so in such a way as to pass BYU by.

Coaching is THE BIGGEST part of the game. Not just the X's and O's, but the motivation and mental preparation.

Nobody is better at that than Urban. Urban would go undefeated with the same team another coach went 5-6 with the previous season - oh wait, that's exactly what he did at Utah.

Urban didn't have one recruit at Utah that played in a game. He literally played the same kids McBride did the previous season. McBride went 5-6 in 02' and Urban went 22-2 in the next two seasons, 03' and 04'. Being ranked #4, busting the BCS - when it was the hardest to do - and dominating teams.

Same kids McBride had. Different mind set, different expectation from the entire organization and different level of preparation.

Huge difference in performance. IT'S COACHING.

He changed the mind set AND preparation and the same kids who went 5-6 responded to be top 4 in the nation.

Urban has done it everywhere he has been.

If he were at BYU, he would have done it there as well. His teams believe. They fully buy in. Period. Bronco doesn't hold a candle to Urban. Not even close.
