Talked to parents of an offensive starter on the flight home. Their thoughts:
Nothing particularly earth shattering or "insider" but thought I'd share:

1. The team is tired. All the travel and strong competition has taken its toll.

2. Injuries obviously have had a huge impact. Tough to overcome the loss of so many key players and not expect a let down at some point.

3. Their son said the Michigan team they saw on the field was not what they had prepared for in practice and film study. Harbaugh game planned for this game totally differently from other weeks. They knew what we were going to do and had something to counter it. )We all witnessed it.)

4. We got out coached. There is a reason Harbaugh is an NFL level coach. He is good. He prepares a unique game plan every week. There was an insinuation that we don't adapt much to the opponent. (My commentary on that point: That is consistent with what we've heard the coaches say that we worry about our own execution and rely on that to beat the opponent. The problem is that other teams focus on execution just as much. More talented and better coached execution beats even our best execution when we don't have the talent or game plan to support it.)

A member of our bishopric is a former player from the 80s. I chatted him up a bit and he was very frustrated with Anae's inability to adapt to what the defense was doing. He said the whole plan was to shake and rattle Mangum, and Anae never varied from what simply wasn't working. He said there are absolutely things that can be done to counter what Michigan was doing but Anae didn't do it. It's like he didn't have a plan B and was dumbfounded that Anae couldn't have predicted what Michigan's defensive strategy would be and at least try something different - slants, quick screens to the flat, crossing routes over the middle, etc.

Overall I think this loss had a lot to do with injuries and fatigue but it feels like our coaches really didn't put our guys in a position to succeed.
