One other thing...
For players who aspire to play in the NFL if they don't continue to shine then they won't get the coveted invite to the Combine, they won't have the body of work that scouts want to see in order to get them onto a draft board.
I think you are correct, but I also think that it shows up in the number of players who get drafted. If you quit on a season because you lost a couple of games you may not have the kind of fire it takes to make it to the next level.
Maybe that is something the coaching staff could look at encouraging. Competitive fire and how it carries into more than just a bowl game.
