I'm with you and am so glad to hear a voice of reason every once in awhile in this wilderness. There has been no improvement since BYU went independent. What has it been? Five years? Notre Dame has so much football history. We can't compare. They could join any conference they want to, but I guess independence works out for them. We, like to think we do, but our history just does not compare. We don't have Knute Rockne, the Four Horseman, win one of the Gipper type of thing.

I feel comfortable being a G5 school and playing the Air Forces, Boise States, San Diego States and being ranked in top 25 every year and maybe going to a NY6 bowl. Regarding National Championships, BYU just doesn't have the depth to achieve that goal. I think September showed that weakness and next year it will show worse. Not sure what Holmoe is thinking. He will injure these kids off.

I've also wanted to say this regarding the 1984 National Championship. Of course it was a great year and we were undefeated, beating an 8 and 5 Michigan in the Holiday Bowl by a last minute type of touchdown. It wasn't a great win but pollster's were stuck with us. Is there anyone who thinks we could have beat Oklahoma or Washington that year? Really?

Anyway, let's drop this independence thing and find some good G5 schools to align with, if you don't want to go back to Mountain West. I believe Boise State would like to align with us. Air Force, San Diego State and other good schools, then one or two P5 schools for out of conference. Our recruiting and depth could handle some fun seasons with these schools.
