Your son can still make it on his own if he takes out a loan. If he's making $6000/year going to BYU, he shouldn't need very much more. Also, he could probably make double that annually if he worked full time spring/summer and part time during the school year.

I just don't see what your issue is unless you think every college student is entitled to the government paying for at least part of their tuition (Sanders plan, right?)? I suppose we can agree to disagree about what the government should pay for...
