This has been gnawing at me lately
My son made an all-star baseball team recently and we told the coaches he could be there for the Friday & Saturday games but not Sunday. The response was the commitment requires Sunday play so we said "thanks but no thanks" and chose not to have him play.
Another kid on the team (of comparable ability) is LDS and their family plays on Sundays throughout the spring & summer for all-stars, travel, etc.
I think I made the right choice, but part of my rationale is that my son is not a superstar (just a solid player) and has basically zero chance of playing beyond high school ball. However, I might change my tune if I thought I had the next Bryce Harper on my hands.

Really? So how is BYU any different from every other D1 program. You get offered if your good, BYU doesn't control that.
