The current implementation of offsides hurts the game
I have watched a lot of high school games. Due to the offsides rules there are two common offensive strategies. One is to work the ball up the sideline and hope to eventually launch a ball into the goal box, hoping that one gets a fortunate bounce that puts the ball into the goal. The other, if the defense is drawn up to midfield, is to lob a pass over this defensive line and hope the striker can outrun the defense and beat the goalie to the ball, so an attack on the goal can be made. In both cases, a goal is usually only scored when there is perfect execution or the defense makes a glaring mistake.

The typical outcome is the game has a whole lot of trying but not much to show for it, unless the teams are mismatched, in which case the better team might score 7 goals!

Even at the pro level a successful goal often depends on perfect execution, if not with some luck involved. The soccer purists believe this is a good thing. It may be but it makes the game very difficult and when played with lesser talent it can make the game extremely monotonous.
