why off-sides is even a rule. Maybe it's my football/basketball upbringing where the goal is to "beat the defense" not wait for them.
I don't understand why a team couldn't "cherry pick" an offensive player near the other teams goal if they wanted too. This would obviously leave a mismatch defensively on the other side of the field, so I don't see why we need to create an artificial rule to prevent this from happening.
Let the game play out.
This is why I like football so much. "intent to deceive" is dumb, but most of the basic rules make sense. "offsides" is only a penalty in football before the snap. After that.....your job IS to beat the defense. And if you streak everybody on long routes and the other team is in a stiff zone or can keep up in man-coverage you risk a sack to your QB, so no extra rule is needed (save lining up behind the line of scrimmage) in order to control risk/reward of the game.
