Fair points--a few reasons
Our best point differential lineups Imo will be offensive lineups.

I think we will be playing a lot of small ball and I don't think we will be as good of a defensive rebounding team.

Mika had his issues on D but he was a force on the glass and was our best interior defender.

I do believe Haws will improve somewhat on D, but I don't think he will ever be a "good" defender. Best case scenario for him on D is that he becomes smart and opportunistic on D... But he's always (or at least next year) going to struggle on that end IMO---I think the team will get a lot of steals though because I like the overall team speed and length of some of the perimeter players.

On Heath Schroyer--he has proven to be valuable thus far in recruiting... but from strictly a defensive coaching standpoint I don't believe he is better than Quincy Lewis. Besides, I believe defense is less about the defensive coach and more about the HC/ lineups.

I'm a big believer in defense but with what I project our best overall differential lineups to be I think we have a major disadvantage on the D glass and in the frontcourt defensively. (although I think Childs will be decent on D)

I will say this---there are a few guys that have a decent ceiling on D and if they commit to that side I could see BYU get to the 75 range again.

The other thing that could change is Dave Rose may opt for defensive lineups the majority of the time (which would be a mistake IMO)

If I were the coach (obviously there is a good reason I'm not) I would play a ton of small ball and gang rebound on the D glass. I would be willing to drop 25 spots defensively if that same lineup props us up 40 spots offensively. To me it is about point differential--and utilizing the lineups that give us the best overall point differential.

With the personnel I project us to have I think we can play a style that would be impossible to guard and would leave us vulnerable on D (but would still be a D that could get a lot of steals) . Most on CB hate the 1-3-1 (I like it as a change up) playing small will make us better in a 1-3-1 and will force teams to play with pace. We hand problems in the 1-3-1 because we asked Mika to cover both corners and TJ wasn't a good enough defender to guard the top.... Ideally we would have a wing with length at the top and the back to cover corners---we will have that this year.

Overall If the roster is healthy I think we will see an NCAA team that is dangerous and will be beating teams 105-95.

Coach Rose may opt for less offense and more D this year with his lineups---I just hope that whatever he does it's data driven rather than "feel"
