Exactly, and even then, hand-wringing about "third place" in the WCC is
disingenuous at-best. If we finish third and the top two teams are both ranked in the Top 15, is that really a good measuring stick for our team? If we were to finish ranked in the Top 25, regardless of finishing third in the conference, that would be a successful season.

I'm not the biggest fan of the WCC, but when looking at the numbers, the WCC is hardly the typical mid-major. In 2017, the WCC finished as the 9th highest-rated conference, 17-thousandths of a point behind the 7th-rated AAC. In other words, the WCC is in a three-conference group that is the next tier below the six power conferences. 2017 was hardly an outlier, as the WCC finished as the 9th-rated conference in 2014 and 2015 as well. For those clamoring for the MWC, the WCC has rated as a better conference than the MWC for three of the past four years.
