If there is one thing that can be pointed out about his work, it's that BYU has had a solid D-line every year that he has been D-line coach. He was D-line coach from 2002-2016. Over that time, I have never noticed a terrible D-line. The D-line royally sucks this season.
Kaufusi seems like more of a disciplinarian than any other coach on the defense. Even though they are bad in coverage, watch how our LBs flow to the ball. 3 of the top 4 tacklers on the team are LBs. The fourth guy? Corbin Kaufusi.
As far as sacks go: CK leads the team with 3, Takitaki has 2.5; Fred, Trajan, and Grant Jones are 3rd on defense with 1 sack each. When the LBs lead the team with tackles and sacks, that's not a Kaufusi problem. He may not be able to teach pass coverage, but he does a great job at teaching the guys how to rush the QB and tackle. Move him back to DL coach.
