I posted these comments in a thread below, but i think some of this bears repeating...

The TV discussions were between the B12 and FOX. NOT between BYU and the B12. The B12 and BYU never got to the TV discussions because it never got that far the first time. TH's comments are exactly what happened.

Your TV rights are controlled by ESPN. The B12 Tier 1 rights are as well. However, our Tier 2 rights are owned by FOX.

The fact of the matter is that your rebroadcast rights would affect FOX far more than ESPN, should you join the B12. The vast majority of your games would fall to Tier 2 (same as everybody elses) and these rights are paid for by FOX. They want control of the inventory they are paying over a billion dollars for. They want BYU fans to HAVE to actually BUY FOX cable in order to see the games. The fact that BYU fans could possibly forgo buying their sports package and just watch the game on BYUtv 48 hours later doesn't sit well with them. Granted, MOST fans want to watch their team play live... obviously. But there are certainly quite a few that would wait to watch the game for free a day or so later. FOX NEEDS people to buy their sports packages... that's how they make their revenue. I can't emphasise that enough!

ESPN doesn't care at all about rebroadcast because they are on basic cable EVERYWHERE. Their revenue comes from advertising and not subscriptions sold. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

I have no doubt that when the B12 started chatting with BYU the first time around, and ran the idea by FOX to see what they thought about it, FOX said, "try again".

THIS TIME, the rumor is that BYU contacted the B12 asking what sort of concessions would have to be made regarding BYUtv in order to be considered as team #12. That is another HUGE difference from last time.

Sunday play isn't an issue. Never has been. The KEY to this WHOLE THING is rebroadcast rights. If BYU gives those up, or somehow compromises by not rebroadcasting any FOX owned content (Tier 2 games) this could work out.
