The school gets 2 points for each scholarship player potentially. You get one point for that player being academically eligible during the past year. The other point is awarded if the school retains the player or if the player graduates. To get the retention point, a scholarship player has to remain with the school for the following academic after receiving his scholarship. If BYU brings in 20 freshmen on scholarship, and 18 of them go on missions, BYU loses 18 APR points for retention.
