a few things to think about
the fact that so many kids apply demands that BYU accept only the ones with the highest gpa and act scores. This means the highest qudrant of univeristy applicants attend byu. On the other hand the minimum to get into the U is 2.0 by no means a dificult barrier to entry.

With an incoming studdent body every year of the best and the brightest, competition in class is higher. This mean educators at BYU have to prepare lessons for an advanced group of individuals. While there are well educated students that attend general classes at the U they are in classes with those that barely passed through high school. the curriculum is dumbed down. While upper classes that weed out those that are unprepared might be comparable the general clases as a whole are not. BYU has an advanced curriculum because they deal with an overall more intelligent student body. (there are very smart people at the U however looking at the best objectice factors we have average gpa and act/sat scores BYU's average is by far above Utah's. I understand these are not the best indicators of intelligence but its what we have)

I know when you were rejected by byu your parents told you the classes were the same to make you feel better but the truth is basic common sense states otherwise. Scools have to cater to their students and if their students are at a higher level of learning they have to adapt their curriculum to meet this higher level.
