So you did have to do the chicken challenge, and actually cut it for a month to get a better rate.
That's exactly why people do cord cutting. They get pay something similar (or less) than what you do, and they never have to worry about that.

The last time I signed up for Dish, I signed up for a month-to-month deal. When I tried to cancel, they told me that I was under contract. When the installer came, the paperwork they'd generated included a checkbox (pre-checked) that forced it to be a contract rather than month-to-month. So they gave me the wrong paperwork, which I signed assuming it was what they'd told me it was, and so I was stuck with a contract.

That was the last time I signed up for a contract for TV service. I've been a cord cutter ever since.
