Primary reason was to change our family's culture. A million channels means
there's always something at least decent enough to watch so it's easy to sit back and watch mediocre entertainment. Now the TV is rarely on and we have a much more active culture. My kids hardly even know what commercials are to my great satisfaction.

Cost would be 2nd. 3rd would be the fact that most of what we like to watch can be found online in one way or another.
