Maybe that works for you. We decided that it doesn't work for us and we love the ability that Netlfix, Hulu, etc. give us to both control and see everything that has been watched. Our boys have certainly skirted the controls on more than one occasion, through methods that I have yet to figure out. But we have great visibility into everything that has been watched and can discuss with them when we find questionable content on there, or when we have seen the memory wiped (yes, they've tried that too, but the evidence of anything being watched is a surefire way to know that something questionable has been watched).
Cord cutting has been great for us. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone, but we love it and would never go back now.
