What LaVell Edwards accomplished drew thousands more students to BYU and raised the academic profile of the school. You can't deny this. The academic reputation of BYU has soared as a result. Unfortunately it has gotten to the point where elite students who likely would've attended a UC, Stanford, Ivy League, etc. in 70s and have no interest in sports now want to be at BYU. Its not unreasonable for them to pay $50 as part of their tuition to fund athletics. And with the free access maybe they'll actually attend games while they're at school.
