The difference is pretty minimal; the types of bowl games BYU plays in largely just cover the cost of attendance, and I believe the G5 schools get more from the NY6 bowl arrangement than BYU. BYU could still schedule neutral or one and done games for those payouts, but the flipside of doing that means that BYU either has fewer games at home (and fewer revenue from fewer ticket sales and home game TV rights) or BYU has to pay someone to come to Provo to even out the schedule. There really isn't a significant difference in $$$ from any of these considerations.
