This is an interesting take, I am Head Baseball Coach at a local high school and have watched things change so drastically over the last 15 years when it comes to coaching young men from 14-23.. when Rose entered into coaching the respect given to coaches by athletes was at very high level, like someone said walking out of practice would have been unheard of 20 years ago..having to adapt to the new generation of athlete has been difficult for myself and my staff as a coach you hope and desire to adapt and want to remain coaching yet dealing with some of the stuff I have had to deal with which only be magnified at the college level is extremely difficult to process and handle.. on one end you want to keep to your ideals and core Principles as a coach yet they are constantly being put the for front and question both by yourself, parents, administration, assistants and players..the biggest balance is trying to deal with some of your best players being the ones who cause you the most problems, but knowing without them you don’t win.. it really pulls at your core as a coach. One final example is one of my peers who is a legend in the baseball circles and has one countless championships and is still in the playoffs but having a tough year is got all kinds of problems within his program and this is a 30 plus year coach with many state championships teaching and molding young men it just blows my mind.
