more than they did in that one. I don't think BYU let Arizona stick around at all. I think our drives were killed one after another by some VERY suspicious calls--all 4 quarters. Honestly, I was expecting Bronco to just walk his team off the field. And I've NEVER felt that way about any other BYU game I've witnessed.
Yes, I'm well aware how competitive sports work--from both perspectives, thanx. And like I said to start, I rarely blame refs, cuz costly miscalls can become part of the game at any time--even when they cost a team a winning score. The refs judgment is part of the game--it's just the way the ball bounces sometimes. That said, I've witnessed dozens of games (mostly NBA) where it was apparent the refs were deliberately sabotaging the flow of the game to favor one team that clearly wasn't going to win otherwise. I've only felt this sort of treatment towards BYU (or college competitive sports, generally) a few times at most. But that Arizona game in 2006 is the one game that comes immediately to mind in that regard.
I'm kinda thankful we lost fair & square to BC later cuz it would sit real sick on my stomach to have that Arizona game as our only loss that year.
mutu.
