Why drop down to FCS? It obviously was not super obvious at that time that Brad was headed to the NFL.

I fully support the narrative that Doman whiffed. He had a full year to evaluate him and see he had more potential than Nelson. Doman, who was once a scrappy player who almost never got a chance, seemed to love player grit more than even Bronco. And Bronco, as HC, bears responsibility as well. K-dog was once a prolific CBer who tried to argue that point, but I wasn't hearing it back then. Of course back then, in the spring of '09, I didn't think of Nelson as going to be anything more than decent QB depth.

At the end of the day, life happened. Heaps ended up with mental issues. Nelson was what he was, and I won't fault him for giving his all. Our coaches refused to see he was what he was, and now those coaches are gone.


But the truth is that everybody, from fans to the coaches, wanted Heaps to be Mr Heisman. Sorensen did not fit with those plans, and that is why he left BYU.
