Millennial Reality Check
Long time lurker first time poster shout out (@CNixon)

I personally have enjoyed cougar board for many years and appreciate all the people who take time out of their days to post relevant info on BYU sports. Having said that some vocal minorities on this board continuously trash the coaching staff for “driving the program to the ground”. Honestly I laugh at these people because although we can all agree this season was a disaster and most definitely a season to be forgotten, serious changes were made that should project serious change. One season does not define a program or a coach. Tons of respectable programs around the country have tough years, BYU is no exception. After all these changes were made these same people started claiming nepotism and that some people were treated wrong. Every change Kalani made was warranted, he is the head coach and makes the decisions because ultimately if they don’t work he will be unemployed. Realistically speaking the offensive minds Kalani brought on to the staff are some of the best we could get if not the best. For those who don’t like to lose or have a tough season once in a while, go be a fan of Bama. Y’all need to realize that Kalani and Co have had and will have many things working against them to perform at the level we all want as fans. The biggest issue we face as a program is our lack of P5 status and that is the truth. College Football has changed and conference affiliation does matter. Until we are invited to a P5 or form a strong but not P5 conference with the AAC when the next realignment happens we shouldn’t really have sights set on a Natty or NY6 bowl. Independence whether it works or not was meant to expose us to a bigger stage that hopefully gets us an invite with the top dogs of the P5 conferences. Like it or not we will not be nationaly relevant again unless we go undefeated which is not going to happen or are contenders in a P5 conference.

My advice is to realize that these upcoming schedules although extremely difficult have some really fun matchups. We should look at these remaining independent schedules as resume building opportunities and mini bowl games that are guranteed. Independence won’t last forever but I’m pumped to see what Kalani and Co will be able to accomplish in the upcoming years. Go Cougs
