The Offense was a BIG problem. A few years ago USU won 10 games using 4 QB's...
...and thumped BYU in Provo 35-20. With all the turmoil over getting 2nd, 3rd and 4th string QB's game ready and tweaking the offense to fit around each of their abilities they weren't great offensively but they did enough to be average (scored 27 pts a game) which was good enough for the stellar defense they had (19 pts a game). Their freshman 4th string QB finished the year with a PER of over 130 (pretty good all things considered).

Utah in 2011 (first year in the Pac12) had no QB depth at all when Jordan Wynn went down (as expected) early in the year. They pieced together an offense around a D-II QB and managed to go 6-3 with him in the Pac-12 including a bowl win and one of their best finishes. Again the offense wasn't great but it was in the avg range which was good enough for the defense to keep them in the game and give them chances to win.

These are just two local schools with recent examples. A little digging would turn up numerous examples of schools/OC's around the country who had to fix offenses with inexp QB play/QB injuries etc and managed to find success. A couple of Natty's have been won in recent years behind freshman backup QB's (Ohio St and 'Bama).

A guy with as much offensive experience as Ty had should've been able to at least make the offense average (rank somewhere in the 60-75 range). There's just no excuse in my book that justifies finishing almost last in so many critical offensive indicators. We only scored 20+ pts in 4 games and that included playing some of the worst defenses in America and an FCS team.
