Fairly or not, the church is increasingly viewed by the mainstream as a fringe sect with exclusionary (misogynistic/anti-gay) policies and practices. This is hurting the church, and by extension BYU athletics. We would probably be in the BIG12 now if it weren’t for the church’s recent controversies and current policies.
