Why is that sad?
A guy likes the BYU sports program enough to 1) live near it and 2) donate to the University.
Why is this such a travesty?
I do not believe he's alone in his feelings--not by a long shot. What will be truly sad is if BYU and its leaders allow the program to fade for too long, or actually pull the plug, and find themselves dismayed (as you seem to be) by what may be the permanent results.

Unfortunately, I think the intention of the BOT is to eventually step out of collegiate sports entirely.
