"Pac 10? No way.
Gene Stallings, a former regent who served leading up to the decision to move to the SEC, said he remembers when then-Athletic Director Bill Byrne and Loftin made a presentation in 2010 to the board of regents regarding a potential move to the Pac 10.
"I was completely opposed — it didn't make sense to join the Pac 10, not economically or otherwise," Stallings said. "Myself and Regent Adams were very opposed to it and stopped that discussion in its tracks."
Staying with the Big 12 by far was his preference over going to the Pac 10, the former coach said. Adams, who played football for Stallings while at Texas A&M, said he was in agreement with his former coach. "He knew exactly what it would do to A&M athletics," said Adams, who was on the board when regents voted to give Loftin authority to negotiate on behalf of A&M."
