That's the point behind universal healthcare
If every insurance plan out there is a) already full of unhealthy people by their choices b) not open to choosing your category or level of health c) being exploited by heath insurance and pharmaceutical companies... the idea is we cannot control health (choices), but can control cost.

Thus, every American under on plan would be creating the massive purchasing power needed to bring down said costs. The average Joe will pay less. Will you? Maybe, maybe not. Yes, eventually you'll subsidize or 'pay for' some tubby to get fatter, chain smoker's new lungs, etc. They however will pay for your birth and delivery of your 7th kid.

You could say that about just any government program. We pay for roads we dont use, we pay for Marines to fight bad guys we'll never confront, we pay for satellites to beam grainy photos that egg heads will study for decades... of marginal if no value to us. Oh well.

I'm generally for Universal healthcare. I do not however, believe the federal government will execute it properly. So its either be exploited by private healthcare, or deal with inept public healthcare.
