There’s no market to bring down prices because the consumer doesn’t know what
the price is or is going to be. If the OP knew, and if prices were determined by market forces, the OP might have gone somewhere else for a better deal.

If a market isn’t possible, a regulatory body could potentially do the same thing.

The problem is, consumers don’t know the price. This effects price (since there’s no competition for the customers business), and also impacts the amount of services people seek out.
